PTI to Challenge Election Commission’s Decision on National Assembly Seats

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) announced it will challenge the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision in the Supreme Court. The ECP reportedly decided not to allocate specific seats in the National Assembly to the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC).

Senator Ali Zafar, representing PTI in the Senate, argued that the ECP’s decision violates democratic principles and the Constitution. He cited Articles 51 and 106, claiming they guarantee specific seats based on election results and allow elected representatives to participate in crucial elections, including the President, Prime Minister, and Senate.

Zafar further argued that the ECP’s decision contradicts Article 51 (Clause 6D), which states that political parties should receive designated seats based on their electoral success. He claimed PTI was entitled to 29 seats in the National Assembly as per their performance.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the recent Supreme Court ruling stripping PTI of its election symbol, Zafar criticized the ECP’s decision as another “blow to democracy.” He emphasized the alleged constitutional violations in both rulings and asserted that PTI would challenge them in court.

Zafar stated that the party believes the President, Senate, and Prime Ministerial elections should be postponed due to the ECP’s decision. He expressed confidence that the Supreme Court will overturn the “illegal move,” paving the way for fresh elections with full representation.

Sources also reported 犀利士 that PTI plans to challenge the ECP’s decision in the High Court through a legal application currently being prepared.
